# Navigate an NSA matter

> Review provider identity, dispute details, negotiations, and milestone dates.

Open the No Surprises Act matter from [My Cases](https://attorney.dearlegal.com/dashboard/cases). Confirm the provider, dispute number, payer, and service information before changing any record.

## Understand the workspace

| Tab | What it contains |
| - | - |
| Client | Practice identity, provider-client details, point of contact, and provider roster |
| Matters | Claim, payer, facility, authority, service lines, and timeline information |
| Dispute | Dispute context, current stage, and available next-stage controls |
| Negotiations | Charge/offer context, negotiation dates, and offer history |
| Dates | Milestone due dates, occurred dates, statuses, and notes |
| Records / Documents / Notes | Activity and supporting material |
| Tasks / Accounting | Assigned work and financial records |

## Verify the provider identity

Client distinguishes the bound **practice contact** from descriptive provider-client details. The practice's name, address, phone, and selected identifier come from the contact record. Use **Change practice contact** only when the binding itself needs correction.

The **Provider roster** offers **Add from contacts** and shows the member's contact status and identifier information. When the screen reports no active NPI, an authorized contact editor must update the contact record before that identifier can be selected. A roster description is not a substitute for the contact's identifier.

The **Point of contact** identifies the person used for matter updates and firm communication. Review that person separately from the rendering provider.

## Review the dispute and service lines

Matters and Dispute show related claim, payer, facility, and service-line information. Compare dates of service, codes, amounts, and identifiers with the supporting records. The service-line interface displays a limit of ten lines; follow the form's validation for the record you are editing.

A review-stage matter may expose **Approve as case** or **Reject**. An accepted matter can instead show a current stage and next-stage selector. Review the intended action and consequences before committing it. A stage labeled IDR Filed is not, by itself, proof of external filing or service.

## Review negotiations

</Frame>

Review the billed amount, QPA, cost-sharing, settlement authority, and existing offers together. Use [Record an NSA offer](/docs/help/practices/nsa-offers) for the form fields and verification steps.

## Review milestone dates

Dates separates **due**, **occurred**, **status**, and **notes**. Check whether a value describes a deadline or an event that actually occurred before editing it.

The interface describes automatically populated lifecycle dates and permits corrections. After changing a milestone, review the saved value and related dates with the person responsible for deadline management. A blank due date or “Not yet occurred” label should not be used alone to decide that no deadline exists.

Keep supporting communications and documents with the case, and use [Tasks](/docs/help/tasks/create-and-track) for assigned follow-up.
